You need a message in dots and dashes

Whether you are learning Morse, preparing a signal, or just curious how a word sounds in beeps, hand-translating the alphabet is slow and error-prone. A tool that maps each character for you turns a five-minute chore into a copy-paste.

Encode or decode in one step

The Morse Code tool converts plain text to International Morse and back. Type your message and read the .- -... pattern, or paste a Morse string with spaces between letters and slashes between words to recover the original text.

Pair it with safe encoding when needed

Morse is about representation, not compactness. If you instead need to pack binary into a clean alphabet for transport, the Base32 / Base58 tool is the better fit. Use Morse when the goal is human signaling, learning, or a retro touch.

Where it helps

  • Studying for a ham-radio or scout badge.
  • Encoding a short easter-egg message in a project.
  • Double-checking a hand-written Morse string.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is spacing more important than the dots and dashes?

Because the signals inside a character, between characters, and between words are distinguished only by the length of the gaps. Get the timing wrong and the same dots and dashes decode as different letters entirely.

Are numbers and punctuation supported?

Yes, digits have their own fixed sequences and common punctuation has them too, though the wider the character set the more the operator has to memorise. For practice the letters and digits are what matter.

Is Morse code still used for anything real?

It survives as a backup signalling method in aviation and maritime contexts, where a very simple signal can still be understood when a data link is unavailable. For everything else it is a teaching and hobbyist subject.
